I've been too busy. I need a BREAK! Perhaps Sunday. I really need to clean my room and get back to my web site. I had planned some major improvements to my site but I found it too hard to do them. If anyone out there knows a good web designer who can put my stuff up there for free I'd appreciate it.

I bought a music keyboard a couple of weeks ago. I have not played with composition since college and had hoped to go back to it with the new tools available through the MAC. I'm sad to say that the minute I bought it, I had too much on my plate to be able to use it. As I said, sunday looks like a good day to play.

I'll be doing a birthday party for the twins of Congressman and Mrs. Pete Stark tomorrow. I've been doing their family picnic for years now.

This is one of the rare Holiday weekends of the year where I actually can enjoy some time off myself. Don't get me wrong. I love clowning, writing, and performing for my living, but one needs to relax sometimes.

Yesterday, I went to a party thrown by a friend of my boyfriend. They went to school together at Glen Burnie High School. The house was fantastic, the food was great, the weather was lovely. The people were interesting and fun. It was mostly a family affair, and I think we had nearly every age. My friend of 20 plus years, Mike Rosman, provided the hosts and guests with a hilarious juggling show. Here's his picture and website:

Today it was a quiet one. I'm catching up with online stuff, had brunch with my Boyfriend. I'm finishing the script for the kids of MNCPPC Teen performance Ensemble. (If anyone knows any good Cowboy jokes for this, send 'em my way.)

I found this video on Break. I loved it! Enjoy.

Link is here if player doesn't work. Tony Blair Sings The Clash

<lj-embed id="2" />
Tony Blair Sings The Clash - Watch more free videos

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally a very slow weekend for me. Most people go out of town for the weekend. The local carnivals generally don't hire. Festivals avoid MD weekend. So, I usually find it easy to book birthday parties on this weekend.

I've changed the way I do BDs recently. I once tried to keep it to a strict hour. Thirty minute show plus thirty minutes of face painting. Now, I like to have some flexibility. I tell people to expect that I'll be there approximately 90 minutes. I do a "show." The length of the show depends on the ages of the kids. If they are younger, 3-4, I do 15 to 20 minutes. For 5-8, I do 30 minutes. Juggling, comedy, and a little bit of magic. I go to the face painting next and then balloons.

Many of my colleagues in circus poo poo balloons and face painting. I actually enjoy doing it and using it as part of the performance. My face painting has become very elaborate. My balloons are not so elaborate, but I get a lot of comedy out of them.

I enjoy birthdays because the BD performance is the most basic theatre experience. What is more basic than entertaining a group of kids? I get to go into a group and start a little bit of good natured trouble.

Last night, I stayed up until 2:00 am writing the script for the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission Teen Performance Ensemble. this is my third year directing their show. So why am I also writing the script? It's because all I'm really doing is taking the ideas that the kids come up with in improvisation, and then I translate them into a coherent 45 minute show.

I'm so proud of the kids this year! They actually wrote most of the music as well as came up with the core ideas that will end up in the show. If you ever find yourself in my position, that you need to work with a group of teens to put on a production, I highly recommend allowing them to improvise and come up with their own material. When they do it, they have ownership of the material. They want to see the best production possible and they work toward it.

Now I'm about to look up my directions for today's gig. This is a birthday Party. My costume is wrinkled. I need to iron it, so I'll post later.

Mandy

This is how his review starts:

'Sinking Ship
When Mr. Moviefone says "Tharrr she blows!" in reference to 'Pirates of the Caribbean 3,' he's not talking about a ship, if you know what we mean. '

He then says that there was too much going on in the movie and that it was hard to follow. The dude has an IQ of an amoeba. It was perfectly understandable and pretty entertaining.
